Hello everyone! Today we discussed the impact of escapism on Americans during the Great Depression. We analyzed the impact of radio and theatrical shows on Americans suffering during the economic crisis. We also discussed Federal One, a program through the Works Progress Administration (WPA), and how it helped unemployed artists, writers, musicians, actors, and dancers find jobs during the time. We specifically looked at the National Theatre Project as an example.
For homework, please read the article on an African-American branch of the NTP. The show that you will read about is frequently called the "Voodoo Macbeth." Please read the article and answer the questions that are attached. Also, please remember that your next test will be on Wednesday, February 20. Your study guide will be given out during the next class. Also, your rough drafts for your research papers will be due by the end of the week. Please email me if you have any questions.
