APA: Prohibition

Hello everyone!  Today we evaluated the 18th Amendment and the Volstead Act in order to determine the problems with both laws during the 1920s.  We also viewed clips from Prohibition by Ken Burns to evaluate the enforcement of the law.  At the end of class, the class tried to create a better version of the Prohibition Law.

For homework, you are to read the article on Prohibition that I have handed out during the class.  Once you read it, please write a paragraph on whether Prohibition was a good attempt to reform morality in the United States or whether it was a total failure.  Please support your argument with evidence.  Additionally, please remember that the article you are reading is biased because the author claims that Prohibition was a failure.  There will be a "pop quiz" during the next class relating to the topics that we have learned so far (Red Scare, trials of the 1920s, and Prohibition).

Furthermore, the revisions with your muckraker papers are due by Friday.  Please remember that I will not ask to collect these papers; it is your responsibility to hand in the revision to me.  Additionally, your next test will be on January 8.  Have a great day!

~Mr. Mazur
